Founded in 1905, its plays in Tercera División - Group 14.

Stadium

CD Badajoz play at Estadio Nuevo Vivero which has a capacity of 15,200, which can be expanded to 30,000. They previously played at Estadio El Vivero, in the east of the city, before moving a few kilometres south of the Guadiana in 1998 to this purpose built arena. The first match at Estadio Nuevo Vivero was on 2 December 1998. The friendly against local rivals CF Extremadura ended in a goalless draw.
The stadium has hosted two full internationals for the Spanish national team. On 8 September 1999 Spain beat Cyprus 8-0 in a UEFA European Football Championship qualification group match. Nearly seven years later, on 2 September 2006, the Spanish national team returned to the Estadio Nuevo Vivero and beat Liechtenstein 4-0 in a qualification group match for the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship.

History

Formed from the merger of two clubs, named Racing and Sport, the club became a serious member of the Spanish leagues in 1931, when Don Francisco Fernandes Marquesta donated the team their first ground, named El Vivero. Subsequently playing most of their history between the Tercera and two Segunda divisions, the club has more recently had a consistent residence in the Segunda A. Never quite good enough to reach the Primera, 11 seasons in the Segunda came to an end in 2004 with relegation to Segunda 2b. In 2006 they were saved from folding by the President of a junior club from Badajoz, AD Cerro de Reyes Badajoz Atlético, who replaced them in Segunda 2b, with Badajoz falling to the Tercera.
